Carlos Andrés Romano

Carlos Andrés Romano, has been a Doctor of Industrial Engineering since 2001 and a University Full Professor since 2017 in the Department of Business Organization of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He teaches at the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of Valencia.

His research career has focused on more than 25 years of activity in areas such as Cellular Manufacturing, Work Study, Production Scheduling and Sequencing or Combinatorial Optimization mainly. Having developed in these areas Methodologies, Conceptual Frameworks, Operational Research Models (OR/MS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Digital Technologies, in a deterministic and uncertain context. The main industrial sectors in which he has worked are ceramics, automobiles, footwear and food distribution.

His research has taken the form of 3 six-year periods of research and 1 of transfer, 9 doctoral theses in the last 10 years, more than 400 total citations of his 30 articles in indexed journals of which 47% are in the first tertile and 37 % in the second tertile, 12 book chapters in prestigious international publishers and participation in nearly 140 conferences, almost all of them international peer review, in addition to participation in 38 research projects funded in public and private calls.

In the teaching field, he has participated in 28 teaching innovation projects, where it is worth highlighting the award for teaching excellence that he received in 2001 and the 2nd award received at the UPV for the application of Flip Teaching methodologies to the GIOi subject of “Programming and Production and Operations Control”.

He has been or is a member of the following scientific associations: “Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Valencia”, “EURO -The Association of European Operational Research Societies”, “Association for the Development of Organization Engineering – ADINGOR” and “ Spanish Society of Statistics and Operational Research SEIO.

Carlos Andrés Romano, es Doctor Ingeniero Industrial desde 2001 y Catedrático de Universidad desde 2017 en el Departamento de Organización de Empresas de la Universitat Politècnica de València. Imparte su docencia en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de Valencia.

Su trayectoria investigadora se ha centrado en los más de 25 años de actividad en  áreas como la Fabricación Celular, el Estudio del Trabajo, la Programación y Secuenciación de la Producción o la Optimización Combinatoria principalmente. Su investigación se ha concretado en 3 sexenios de investigación y 1 de transferencia, 9 tesis doctorales en los últimos 10 años, más de 400 citas totales de sus 30 artículos en revistas indexadas de las que el 47% son en el primer tercil y el 37% en el segundo tercil, 12 capítulos de libro en editoriales internacionales de reconocido prestigio y una participación en cerca de 140 congresos, casi todos ellos internacionales peer review además de su participación en 38 proyectos de investigación financiados en convocatorias públicas y privadas.

En el ámbito docente ha participado en 28 proyectos de innovación docente, donde cabe destacar el premio a la excelencia docente que recibió en 2001 y el 2 premio recibido en la UPV por la aplicación de metodologías Flip Teaching a la asignatura de GIOi de “Programación y Control de Producción y Operaciones”.

Lourdes Canós Darós

Lourdes Canós Darós, Ph.D. is Full Professor in the Business Management Department at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. She has a degree in Business and Administration and her Ph.D. is about human resources management.  She is a member of the research group ROGLE. She has held the position of Deputy Director of Tourism Management in Gandia Campus at the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Deputy Head of Department for Secretary, and today she is part of different management committes. She has published papers in different international journals with recognized quality in the management field. As recognition, she has received awards for her research and for her work on teaching innovation. Moreover, she is an active participant in different meetings around the world together with other lecturers and managers of important companies. She has taught in different courses and seminars around the world. These conferences were about human resources management, management skills, decision making and management under uncertainty, touristic companies, skills and high education teaching.

Dra. Lourdes Canós Darós es Catedrática de Universidad en el Departamento de Organización de Empresas de la Universitat Politècnica de València-UPV (España). Tiene la licenciatura en Administración y Dirección de Empresas y es Doctora en Organización de Empresas. Ha ocupado el cargo de Subdirectora del área de Gestión Turística en el Campus de Gandia en la UPV y el de Secretaria del Departamento de Organización de Empresas, y forma parte de distintas comisiones de gestión. Ha publicado artículos en diferentes revistas científicas internacionales de reconocido prestigio en el campo de la organización de empresas. Como reconocimiento, ha recibido varios premios por su investigación y por sus trabajos sobre innovación docente. Además, participa activamente en congresos internacionales junto con otros profesores, científicos y directores de empresas. También ha impartido diversos cursos y seminarios sobre gestión de recursos humanos, habilidades directivas, toma de decisiones en situaciones de incertidumbre, organización de empresas turísticas, formación en competencias y docencia universitaria.

 

José P. Garcia-Sabater

José P. Garcia-Sabater is Full Professor of Operations Management in the Departamento de Organización de Empresas at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. He received his Ingeniero Industrial Degree and his PhD from the University Politécnica de Valencia (Spain). He also received a Combined Eng Degree from Coventry University (UK). Professor Garcia-Sabater’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of supply chain management, operations management, and management science.  He is  member of the Scientific Committee of congresses and Editorial Boards. His work has appeared in journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, Discrete Applied Mathematics, and others.

Prof. Garcia-Sabater’s research has focused on empirical studies of operations management in several key industries mainly at the Automotive Industry. These studies have examined mainly Production Planning and Inventory Coordination, but he has also developed in other areas like Assembly Line Balancing for handicapped people. His algorithms are running the assembly line sequencing process at Ford España Assembly Line, and many other SME enterprises are using software and algorithms that has been developed by himself. He also leads the Research Team ROGLE focused on the links Operations Management.

Prof Garcia-Sabater actively leads projects with industrial companies mainly ate the automotive sector and the food industry. He has led (and leads) a number of regional and national funded projects, and has partipated (and participates) in European Funded Projects.

Julio J. García-Sabater

Julio Juan García-Sabater is lecturer at  Depto. de Organización de Empresas of  Universidad Politécnica de Valencia where he lectures several subjects related to  Management in the Industrial Engineering School. He is researcher in ROGLE group and has  participated in different research projects funded by Valencian Government, Spanish Ministry  of Science&Technology. His research activities are focused on Mass customization, lean  production. Julio has consulted with numerous automotive, furniture, other firms.

Julio Juan García-Sabater es profesor del departamento de Organización de Empresas de la  Universidad Politécnica de Valencia donde imparte asignaturas relacionadas con la gestión de  Empresas en la escuela de Ingenieros Industriales. Es investigador del grupo ROGLE y ha  participado en diferentes proyectos financiados por instituciones tanto públicas como privadas.  Su area de investigación esta centrada en mass customization y producción ajustada. Ha  trabajado como consultor para empresas del sector del automóvil, empresas del mueble,  Centros Especiales de Empleo y otras empresas.

Julien Maheut

Industrial Engineer from the UPV in 2008, Mechanical Engineer from the ENSAM (France) in 2008 with Excellence Award and Doctor Industrial Engineer by the UPV.

Currently an Associate Professor at the UPV, he teaches courses such as Operations Management I & II, Lean Manufacturing, Quantitative Methods for IO, Work Study, Artificial Intelligence, Logistics & Operations Consulting, etc.

His professional experience is related to the design, implementation and improvement of operations management systems, having worked on projects for companies such as Ford Motor Company, Faurecia, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, NTT Data, etc.

Authors of more than 10 papers in JCR journals, more than 50 publications in other journals and prestigious books. I have participated in 5 European projects, 4 national research projects and more than 15 research contracts with companies.

 

Juan A. Marín-Garcia

Ph. D. Juan A. Marin-Garcia is a Professor, member of the Departamento de Organización de Empresas at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain). He has been Lecturer in Management, Teamwork and Human Resources Management since 1994, in the Degrees of Industrial Engineering and Business Management. Moreover, he is also Lecturer and Coordinator in Master courses and PhD programs. He is involved in the training of university lecturers and staff. Concerning these areas, he has also worked as a consultant for some companies in Spain and El Salvador (Central America). He is founder member of the Research Groups ROGLE and i-GRHUP where he develops research tasks in different projects. He is also founder member and designer and developer of pedagogical activities at IEMA (Innovation Group for Assessment and Active Methodologies). His main research areas are Participative Management, Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing Systems, TQM, TPM, Performance Evaluation and Active Learning in Higher Education. He is Chief Editor of two academic journals: Working Papers on Operations Management, and Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management. He is also Associate Editor in REDU-Revista de Docencia Universitaria.

Cristobal Miralles Insa

Cristóbal Miralles is PhD. In Industrial Engineering and Full Professor at the Industrial Engineering Faculty of Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in Spain, where he also lectures at the Master on Corporate Social Responsibility. He is member of the Research group ROGLE at UPV Management Science Dept., with post-docs at Cardiff Business School (2004), University of Leeds (2010), Universidade de São Paulo (2012) and Université Grenoble-Alpes (2019) and short stages in many other.

His main research line is focused on the design of systems and workplaces accessible for people with disabilities through the use of Industrial Engineering tools; with multiple works published at international conferences and indexed journals, and also dealing with evaluation/edition tasks for some of them. From his expertise in applied projects and consultancy, his research approach is also widen to other stakeholders within the CSR framework, defining models for translating sustainable policies & strategies into the best operative practices.

He lectures in four languages and is usual invited professor at prestige universities both European (e.g. Liverpool John Moores, Université Grenoble-Alpes…) and Latin-American (e.g. Universidade de São Paulo, Los Andes in Bogotá…), and during five years (2011-2015) has been the Chair and coordinator of the Working Group on “Ethics and OR”, a research network with more than 80 members inside EURO (European Association of Operational Research). Since then, he is in charge of CEDAT Foundation within the UPV Vice-Chancellor of Art, Science, Technology and Society of UPV.  This foundation deals with different issues related with Disability, contributing to minimize the accessibility barriers of students both in the Campus and in the labor market. Through its Sheltered Work Centre, the foundation also promotes the socio-labor integration in collaboration with local stakeholders and launching visible activities that increase awareness in (and out) the UPV community.

Since 2022, he is the director of the Valencian Interuniversity Chair for Innovation in Social Services, working closely with companies, institutions, and social agents in the region, and supporting several Service-Learning collaborations. These experiences, together with his inner interest on Values Education, have resulted in several case studies and moral dilemmas that he applies at the classroom in order to build critical&ethical reasoning skills in the students.

Catedrático de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), donde imparte clases en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial y en el Máster en Responsabilidad y Sostenibilidad Corporativa. Su línea de investigación principal es el diseño de sistemas y puestos de trabajo inclusivos mediante aproximaciones de Ingeniería de Organización Industrial, con múltiples trabajos publicados en congresos internacionales y revistas científicas indexadas donde también ejerce puntualmente labores editoriales y de evaluación. A partir de su experiencia en proyectos de transferencia y consultoría, su foco se abre a distintos grupos de interés, definiendo modelos genéricos para trasladar la responsabilidad social y ambiental a la praxis empresarial; así como analizando estrategias sostenibles y buenas prácticas a nivel operativo.

Imparte docencia en cuatro idiomas, siendo ponente invitado en múltiples cursos y seminarios internacionales en universidades tanto europeas (ej. Liverpool John Moores, Université Grenoble-Alpes…) como latinoamericanas (ej. Universidade de São Paulo, Los Andes en Bogotá…). Fruto de su trayectoria, fue nombrado y ejerció durante cinco años (2011-2015) como Chair y responsable a nivel europeo del Working Group “Ethics and OR”, con más de 90 investigadores de EURO (Asociación Europea de Investigación Operativa); cargo que dejó para coordinar la Fundación CEDAT dentro del Vicerrectorado de Arte, Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad de la UPV. Esta fundación ofrece ayudas técnicas y acompañamiento a estudiantes con diversidad funcional para minimizar las barreras de accesibilidad tanto durante sus estudios como en su integración profesional. A través de su Centro Especial de Empleo, la fundación también promueve la inclusión socio-laboral, trabajando junto a otros grupos de interés de la comunidad universitaria en actividades siempre visibles y generadoras de conciencia social y ambiental dentro y fuera del campus.

Desde 2022 es director de la Cátedra Interuniversitaria del Sistema Público Valenciano de Servicios Sociales, trabajando en red con universidades, empresas y agentes sociales. Por último, destacar su interés en la Innovación Social y la Educación en Valores, con experiencias de Aprendizaje-Servicio (ApS) en distintas organizaciones valencianas, así como casos de estudio y dilemas morales que aplica en el aula con el objetivo de crear conciencia ética y crítica en el alumnado.


Pilar I. Vidal-Carreras

Pilar I. Vidal-Carreras is an associate professor of operations management in the Department of Business Organization at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. She obtained her Industrial Engineering degree and her Ph.D. from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain). Her research and teaching interests are focused on Operations Management and Lean Manufacturing in various sectors, such as industrial and healthcare. She has published numerous articles in prestigious conferences and journals and has participated in research projects at the European, university, regional, and Spanish Ministry levels. Currently, she is one of the principal investigators of a project developing resource planning models for individuals with diverse abilities.

Also noteworthy is her research in education. Since a significant portion of her activity is devoted to teaching, the professor considers it essential not only to conduct research to ensure the highest possible knowledge in the subjects she teaches but also to investigate how to effectively convey that knowledge to students. Therefore, she has also published in the area of quality in teaching and has participated in 11 teaching innovation projects, serving as the principal investigator in two of them. It can be said that Pilar I. Vidal-Carreras’s curriculum is intertwined with one objective: to promote effective convergence between research and the needs of society, whether in the industrial, service, or educational fields, with a particular focus on the transfer and practical application of knowledge.

Pilar I. Vidal-Carreras es profesora de dirección de operaciones en el Departamento de Organización de Empresas de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Obtuvo su título de Ingeniera Industrial y su doctorado en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (España). Sus intereses de investigación y enseñanza se centran en las áreas de Gestión de Operaciones y Lean Manufacturing en diversos sectores, como el industrial y el sanitario. Ha publicado numerosos artículos en congresos y revistas de prestigio, y ha participado en proyectos de investigación a nivel europeo, universitario, regional y del Ministerio de España. Actualmente, es una de las investigadoras principales de un proyecto que desarrolla modelos de planificación de recursos para personas con diversidad de capacidades.

También cabe destacar su investigación en educación. Puesto que una gran parte de su actividad se centra en la docencia, la profesora considera fundamental además de investigar con el fin de que su conocimiento en las materias que imparto sea el mejor posible, investigar en que el modo de hacer llegar ese conocimiento a los alumnos también lo sea. Por ello también ha publicado en el área de calidad en docencia, así como ha participado en 11 proyectos de innovación docente, siendo investigadora principal en dos de ellos. Se puede afirmar que el currículo de Pilar I. Vidal-Carreras se entrelaza en un objetivo: promover la efectiva convergencia entre la investigación y las necesidades de la sociedad, ya sea en el ámbito industrial, de servicios o educativo, con un enfoque particular en la transferencia y aplicación práctica del conocimiento.
